iWOAR 2025 - 10th international Workshop on Sensor-Based Activity Recognition and Artificial Intelligence
18. - 19. September 2025, Enschede, Netherlands
In the past years, the increasing acceptance of wearable sensors has opened new possibilities of applications aiming to better understand the human body, including (but not limited to) human activity recognition, emotion and stress recognition, pain recognition, sleep analysis, nutrition medicine. Due to their ability to collect large amounts of data in unobtrusive ways, wearable devices have attracted the interest of various actors in both the academic and industrial fields, and given them an incentive to develop solutions for the continuous monitoring of the human state in a daily life, workplace or medical context. For these reasons, wearable computing has become an active field of research, with on-going investigations to propose user-friendly and unobtrusive systems that provide high performing services.

iWOAR is an international workshop with a conference-like format, hosted by the Pervasive Systems Research Group at the University of Twente. This year's workshop is being held in Enschede, Netherlands, on the University of Twente campus. The workshop focuses on recognizing human and animal activities using artificial intelligence, with wearable and device-free sensors, as well as related technologies.
All scientific submissions undergo a single-blind peer-review process to ensure that high-quality content is published. Each submission typically receives 2-3 reviews. All submissions are discussed among the program committee members. The designated program committee chairs make the final decision on acceptance or rejection. We invite submissions that target (but are not limited to) the following topics and applications:

• Human Activity /Behavior/Wellbeing Recognition
• Animal Activity and Wellbeing/Welfare Recognition
• (w)Earable Sensing, Computing and Artificial Intelligence
• Device-free Sensing
• Affective Computing
• Real-time Activity Recognition
• Human-Computer Interaction
• Human-Centered Intelligence
• Wireless Sensor Networks/IoT
• Context Awareness
• Sensing in Virtual, Mixed, and Augmented Reality
• Assistive Technologies
• Ambient Assisted Living
• Pervasive & Ubiquitous Computing
• Applications for (Mental) Health, Therapy and Rehabilitation
• Occupational Safety, Healthcare and Wellness
• Assisted Production
• Privacy and Ethical Considerations in Human/Animal Sensing
All submissions should follow the Springer LNCS format. Accepted submissions will be published in the iWOAR 2025 Proceedings online in the SpringerLink digital library.
Last year there were 28 submissions. All submissions underwent a peer review process to assure high quality content. Each submission was reviewed by at least 2, maximum 3 and on the average 2.1, program committee members. The program committee chairs decided to accept 15 papers. This resulted in an overall acceptance rate of 68%. Submissions came from all other the globe including these countries: Austria, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, UAE, United States, and Vietnam. Last year we invited two keynote talks by Prof. Dr. Thomas Plötz and Prof. Dr. Özlem Durmaz Incel. The Best Paper Award was awarded to Susanna Peretti, Chiara Contoli and Emanuele Lattanzi, for the paper entitled "An Experimental Study on the Energy Efficiency of Feature Selection for Human Activity Recognition with Wrist-worn Devices".
